Event History and Description

The Gateway to Healing originated through a partnership with Albert Paley that began in 2010. It was a live event for its first nine iterations, but due to COVID, 2020 was cancelled and 2021 took a virtual approach that was still successful, but not the same as being in the company of our donors, our artists, our patrons, our friends, our burn survivors and the Rochester community at large.

This year's event begins a new era in that it will be hosted by John Grieco at his Objectmaker ArtSpace — in the heart of the Public Market District, and it will be a welcome return to its original form as a LIVE event.

Albert and John are well-known as local artists, both sculptors of metal and steel. They are both also burn survivors of work related explosions in their studios.  Through their recoveries, they have committed to assisting the FLRBA further its mission by hosting a unique opportunity for companies, philanthropists, artists and the community at large to raise awareness and funds to help individuals and families impacted by a fire/burn related injury and trauma.

This year's event will feature local artwork of many formats including sculpture, painting and jewelry all of which can be bid on during auctions, both silent and live. In addition to the featured artwork, there will also be a bevy of raffles for local products, services, dinner certificates, theater tickets, sports memorabilia (thanks to the Buffalo Bills) and golf certificates — all from area businesses who support our mission and understand its enduring value to the Rochester and Finger Lakes community.

Come and experience a festival atmosphere, listen and dance to the Deborah Kendrick Rhythm and Blues Project, celebrate with complimentary wine and beer, enjoy a wide range of culinary delights with a market theme and take home your commemorative glass as a keepsake.

We can't wait to see you in person on May 21st!
