Number of tickets

Imagine being a child who has been burned. A burn is one of the most painful injuries a person can endure... especially for children. Renowned artist and sculptor, Albert Paley knows too well the pain and suffering of surviving a traumatic burn.

On July 26, 2002, Paley, 30 feet in the air, was cutting a piece of metal with a blowtorch when a gas line burst engulfing him in flames. He was rushed to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester with third degree burns over 30% of his body.

The Monroe County Volunteer Firemen’s Association ( and the Finger Lakes Regional Burn Association ( have united to sponsor our first annual Burn Prevention Poster Contest to heighten the awareness of burn injuries in our community. We would like to invite your students to participate and are requesting your aid in the dissemination of information about the contest, rules and forms along with inspiration and guidance to any participating student artists.

The contest is open to all 11th and 12th grade area students. Entrants will be asked to create a burn prevention/ awareness poster focusing on burn prevention for senior citizens and the elderly. The top three award winning artists will have their works made into printed posters, which will be distributed to all nursing homes, skilled care facilities, and senior centers in the greater Rochester area. These winners will also be awarded $500, $300, and $200 respectively, in prize money.
